Lecture 7—“Children of Light…Scattered Everywhere”: The Radicals of the Reformation (ch. 6)
Lecture 8—“Business with God”: The Life of John Calvin (ch. 7)
It is interesting to see that what was hotly debated back in those days seem to get little interest and attention these days. Our mind is influenced by our surroundings. Many issues get settled over time. Even if they are not resolved, their priority or importance changed.
The issues we face today seem to be different from the issues they faced back then. But the essence seems to be the same. It is about what is the uncompromisable biblical truth and what are non-essential traditions that can be changed over time and culture. It is a difficult question and Christians don't always agree on what subject should belong to which category. Certainly we are more tolerant and civil in the way we conduct ourselves comparing to the history, but we may also wonder if we are too tolerant and comprising on the essential truth. May God grant us wisdom to fight the right battle in a manner He that pleases Him.
